Sax (a personal favorite), I read Big Sur, Visions of Gerard, Visions of Cody, The Subterraneans, Satori in Paris. The most about him was his sometimes best friend Jack Kerouac, who fictionalized Cassady slightly as the hero of his classic novel On the Road and in a lesser known stream of consciousness novel called Visions of Cody. Kerouac also included references to Brierly in his book on Neal, Visions of Cody as “Justin G. Mannerly,” and in his Book of Dreams as “Manley Mannerly”. His best known work, but Visions of Cody and Big Sur are my favorites. How cool is the cover of that book – see below). Those phrases, from his posthumous novel Visions of Cody, channel the music of a bilingual identity that for much of his life Kerouac chose to hide. From his works we remind: On the Road, Doctor Sax, The Dharma Bums, Mexico City Blues, The Subterraneans, Desolation Angels, Visions of Cody, The Sea is My Brother, and Big Sur. Visions of Cody details not just the adult male bonding between Kerouac and Neal Cassady — it is more of a history of the country that they search in vain looking for Neal's father. A couple of years went by, and I had reread, a couple of more times, On The Road. A great film, I never read the book. Great footage, four parts, but certainly worth your while and finger-clicks.
